The starting point for all learners is the Compulsory Basic Training
(CBT) course which was introduced in 1990. The course is conducted
by training organisations that have been approved by the Driver & Vehicle
Standards Agency (DVSA).
Mike Barlow Motorcycle Training has been approved by the DVSA
as an Approved Training Body (ATB).
--------------------------------------
All learner motorcycle and learner moped
riders must complete a CBT course before riding on the road.
--------------------------------------
All new car drivers wanting to validate the full moped entitlement
granted with their full car licence must complete a CBT course.
Introduction to the CBT
The CBT course covers 5 elements - A, B, C, D and E. These have
to be taken in sequence.
CBT can be completed in one day (subject to trainee's ability). If under extreme circumstances a trainee is deemed unsafe to carry on, the cbt will be terminated for their safety. Safety equipment can be provided if required eg:
helmet, motor cycle jacket and gloves, a MINIMUM requirement is jeans. NO shell suit bottoms or tracksuit bottoms.
When you've successfully completed all 5 elements you'll be issued
with a Certificate of Completion of training (DL196).
You can now ride on the road on a learner legal motorcycle.
You can also now apply for the DVSA motorcycle theory
test and, if you pass that, go on to take the practical
test.
After CBT there are other
courses you can go on to prepare for the test.
